When we love something, we show it the highest level of respect, care and attention. So why would you think any different about your HVAC system? It needs love too!
In fact, most of us are pretty good at showing our air conditioners, heaters and refrigerators a whole lot of tender loving care but in between your scheduled maintenance plan, there are a few things you can do to give your HVAC that little something extra.
So, we have put together our top 4 tips for your HVAC we think you will love.
Love is in the Air … instead of Nasty Dust clogging your Air Conditioner!
Nothing says I love you more than keeping out the “gook” in your air conditioner. So, we love high-efficiency pleated air filters! For the most part they are an inexpensive proactive product that will make a huge difference in your air conditioner/heaters overall health. These filers offer up to 95 percent efficiency. Most importantly they help to eliminate airborne particles including dust, mold and pollen. And who doesn’t love that! This type of filter helps to prolong the life of you’re A/C or Heater saving you money in the long run so you can buy your Valentine roses instead of daisy’s!
Love your HVAC from the Inside Out!
You know the old saying, out of sight out of mind? Well, when it comes to the ductwork in your home, you’ll need to take off the blinders. Leaky ductwork can add hundreds of dollars to your heating and air-conditioning bill if they are not sealed correctly. If you don’t love crawling into small spaces but want to improve the life of your HVAC, then hire a professional but get up in your attic or down in your basement and make sure your ductwork is properly sealed. Some people make the mistake of thinking because their ductwork is insulated it doesn’t need to be sealed. Remember, air escapes from anything that is not sealed air tight. Once you’ve taken care of this … you and your Valentine can have sexy-time in a perfectly tempered home!
There’s More Than One Way to Show your HVAC Love!
We gave you important tips on taking care of your HVAC from the inside out, but you can’t neglect the outside either. Here are some specific things you can do to help the outdoor health of your HVAC:
• Clear all debris (dirt, leaves & twigs) from around your outdoor unit.
• Gently clean the coils in your outside A/C unit (avoid high pressure hose setting so the coil so doesn’t get bent)
• Cut back tree branches and prune shrubs 18” to 36” away from the unit
• Make sure nothing is laying on top of the outdoor unit. This includes garden hoses!
Set it and Forget it!
There is very little argument technology has made out lives a whole lot easier. When it comes to your HVAC, if you haven’t already, you should consider getting a programable thermostat The Department of Energy says some states still give tax credits for upgrading to programable thermostats. You can check your state here DOE and the benefits don’t stop there. Besides saving you money on your electric bill, most of these devices can be programmed for certain temperatures for certain times of day like:
• Wake up time
• Sleep time
• Leave for work time
• Return home time
This Valentine’s Day make sure you don’t only show the love of your life a little extra commitment, include your HVAC too. You’ll be rewarded in the long the run.
